The Dazzling Kick off of ART LA

Art LA 2009 Spectacular Kick-off Opening Night Cocktail Reception was this past Thursday January 22, at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica .
This Fabulous Opening Night Reception was a benefit for The Museum of Contemporary Art also known as Mocha.

Art LA 2009 presented an exclusive list of 60 of the uppermost international and Los Angeles based art galleries in the world , with programming that did include unusual art displays and cross over events connecting art with film, music, architecture and design.
What caught my eye were 2 displays specically
First the black and white photographs by artist Mariane Mueller courtesy of the Catherine Bastide Gallery, was breathtaking in its cleaver body images and starkness
Additionally, LA Louver gallery Artist “The Rouge Wave Projects” presented beautifully hand painted blue and white ceramic plates. I found this diplay to be a soothing and appealing work of art.It was a joyful and innovative display of talent, imagery, color and concept.

Art LA 2009 special exhibitions focused on experimental paintings, photography, sculpture and film as well as unusual and experimental collaborations.

It was an exciting and memorable evening reception and preview of Art LA 2009 at The Barker Hangar with all the unforgettable and Contempory art displays

My rating is 9 out of 10 Hollywood Stars.

Art LA 2009 ran from Jan 23 thru Jan 25 and will run again in 2010. A fan of contemporary art would have marveled been impressed

LA Opera is known for its dramatic theatrical energy and creative presentation

It was a joyful production with Robert Wilsons Staging, music Director James Conlon and the Debut of Soprano Liping Zhang;
The fabulous Chinese soprano Lipinh Zhang made her company debut as the naïve and sweet Japanese 15 year old bride
Cio-cio San. With Tenor Franco Farina,as her unfaithful husband. BF Pinkerton

Puccinis music was paired beautifully with the, magnificent stage imagery and elegant costumes

Liping Zhang soft voice and graceful movements was a perfect casting as a naive and trusting young Japanese girls devotion and love to an unfaithful American husband

It was a fabulous and memorable evening concert at The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Bowl with an unforgettable Madame Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini

My rating is 10 out of 10 Hollywood Stars.

Towelhead a film by writer/director Alan Ball. My Review is next.

Hello I am Rachel Ganz from the Hollywood Report.

Towelhead centers around a 13 year old Lebanese-American girl named Jasira. Jasira is living with her mother who currently is living with her boyfriend. Jasiras mother discovers inappropriate behavior between her boyfriend and her 13 year old daughter. Jasira is then immediately sent to live with her father Rifat in Texas.

Rifat is a cold hearted, abusive and a poor parent. He shows very little love and respect for his daughter. Rifat verbally and physically abuses Jasira to the point of leaving her with bruises on her thighs. One night when Rifat is visiting his girlfriend Jasira is seduced and raped by Rifats 55 year old neighbor Mr Vuoso.

Towelhead was touted as a comedy but the sexual exploitation and rape of a 13 year old is not funny. I almost walked out of the movie at this point but remained only to fulfill my professional duties. I would not sit through this otherwise.

What was troubling was Mr Alan Balls script that followed.

Jasira became sexually active within days after of her rape. Its irresponsible for a filmmaker to incorrectly lead an audience to this behavior after a 13 year old is brutally raped. Jasira then initiates a sexual relationship with a black classmate. Any 13 year old girl who is just raped is not going to chase boys. Something traumatic of this nature is going to cause a girl to be reclusive, isolated and ashamed. Instead Mr Alan Ball is way off base and pervasively makes fun of a 13 year olds horrid experience into a comedy act. Very bad movie making.

Towelhead by Alan Ball had stellar acting but a very poor content in the script. Mr Ball did not do the necessary research on the subject of rape or could be showing some very illicit behavior. How can such material come from a mans mind and be portrayed on the big screen? I give the movie 3 out of 10 Hollywood Stars. The acting was very good but the story was totally inaccurate of a 13 year old girl following this traumatic experience.

Donna Summer stormed the music scene in the 1970’s. Her latest album “Crayons” is her newest album and the first in 17 years.

Donna Summer the Queen of Disco is Back.” Donna still has the voice, charisma and the Ass!

She called out to the audience to enjoy themselves and be free to dance and I did.

Donna Summer introduced the sold out crowd her two new songs – the sizzling “I’m a Fire,” which has topped the dance charts, and the serenely beautiful “Sand on My Feet,” which was inspired by her Florida home.

She was backed by a seven-piece band, three backup singers and three dancers, Donna made stage and wardrobe. She moved her audience with sharing her feelings about the value of her family and the success of her comeback album.

Here two hour performance was a powerful mix of the past and present performing 19 songs with 9 from her latest album Crayons.

Summer’s 1970’s hits were clearly the best received by the Hollywood Bowl crowd. On the Radio and She Works Hard For The Money were my favorites. Bad Girls and Hot Stuff, two of her best known hits, closed the night. Summer returned for an encored and ended her performance with the 1970’s mega classic hit Last Dance.

It was a fabulous summer’s eve concert at The Hollywood Bowl with an unforgettable music diva Donna Summer. My rating is 10 out of 10 Hollywood Stars.
